Born in Knoxville, TN on 11/30/15. Real name was Walter
Brown McGhee. Moved to Winston-Salem, NC and played on the streets for tobacco
workers' tips. Winston-Salem ran him out of town. He moved east to Greensboro
and Burlington. McGhee was a master of the intricate, ragtim-influenced patterns
that define the blues of the South's Piedmont region. Founded the "Blues is the
Truth" Foundation for the purpose of providing a resource center and a music
scholarship program in order to sustain and continue the blues as a living, dynamic art

| McPhatter, Clyde | Born in Durham in 1931 or 1933. Died on June 13, 1972. Ninteen hit records as a solo act from 1955-1965. In 1950, joined a group called the Dominoes in New York. Left the group in 1953 and became the first lead singer for the Drifters. Died of a heart attack at 41 in New Jersey. |
